Cooper High School’s Broadway Dinner:Part I

Friday night Andy and I attended Cooper’s annual Broadway Dinner. This is the choir’s primary fundraiser for their spring break trip to New York City. The choir members served all the guests a delicious dinner and then preformed several songs from a variety of Broadway Musicals.  It was a very fun evening filled with singing, dancing, and acting. I was truly impressed with how talented these students are and really enjoyed watching their performance. If you get a chance to hear this group sing you should take advantage of it!

Here are some of the images I took at this event. Come back soon to see the rest.

The Blessing of Friends + Life Group Plug

I am overwhelmed with all that God has done for me in my life.  Tonight I was reminded though that His greatest blessings have been that of relationship. God has blessed Andy and I with such an amazing group of friends here in Abilene that have become our family. It is hard to be in the military and live so far away from all of your loved ones.  We miss them tremendously and nothing can replace them. God is good though to put people in our loves who will love us like family and who will walk with us in life’s many journeys. It’s amazing to have people who will laugh with you, cry with you, and pray for you when you need them. It’s hard to be vulnerable and share yourself with others, but I am learning that it is worth it.

Let me encourage you to get plugged in with a group of people who will love you for who you are and inspire you to be better. That’s what these friends of mine do. And for that I am thankful! We attend Beltway Park Baptist Church (http://www NULL.beltway NULL.org/) and the church encourage small groups called Life Groups. It is just a small group of 10-12 people who share life together. We meet once a week at someone’s home and discuss that week’s message, or a particular subject we decided on. We laugh. We cry. We speak into each other’s lives. We just live life together. It’s amazing. I know that there are a lot of churches in Abilene that do that. So if your church does then step out of your comfort zone and join one! I promise you it is worth it. If you do not have a church you attend regularly then come to Beltway and get plugged in.  It will change your life. It has mine.

With that said, here are some pictures I have of some of my Life Group pals. I just realized that I don’t have any pictures of all of us. I am going to have to change that real soon.

God bless you all. Thanks for listening.

Looking Back: Part II

“Yet.”

As soon as I said this word my best friend freaked out! We were juniors in high school and she was heckling me about this guy I was dating. She keep grueling me, “you love him don’t you!” Over and over again she said it. Finally I exploded and it just ran out of my mouth on it’s one; THE STATEMENT THAT SHE TORTURED ME WITH FOR YEARS.

“I don’t love him YET.”

Once I said it I knew I was in trouble. I was trying to convince my best friend that me dating this boy wasn’t a big deal. It didn’t work. So to remind me of my confession she wrote it on a card and made me keep it in my wallet.  She wanted me to never forget what I said.

Well I found the card yesterday. I still have it. The funny thing is the YET has come. I do love him. He is my husband.  I guess Dawn just knew something was up.

Looking Back:Part I

Ever since I posted about my Glee confession I have been thinking nonstop about my life in high school. It’s funny how much you can remember once you begin to think about things. So in the midst of my reminiscing I decided to hit the photo albums to help jolt my memory. I really can’t believe all the junk I found that I have kept over the years. Letters, movie tickets, napkins, pictures, flyers…I mean the list goes on and on. Each one holds a memory. Some that I remember like it was yesterday, others I had forgotten until I saw something that brought it all back.  It is just fun to reflect, to think about such things and see where they have taken you.  I guess each little moment in my life has made me who I am now. So that is why I am posting about this. My blog is a place where you can get to know me. What better way to get to know me than to see where I have been. So here you go. The first glimpse at the past. I may regret this incriminating information in the future, but I am willing to take that risk I guess. So here is the first post in my looking back series.

These images are from my high school choir and musical days. I loved choir because all sorts of students were involved; geeks, preps, jocks. It was a safe zone where people could just be themselves. I remember liking that a lot. No pressure. Just acceptance. And horrible gold la-may vests. HA! Well here you go. This is me and my choir pals back in the day.
