The Arnold Family: Abilene, Tx Portrait Photographer

What can I say, I love this family. This is my very best friend in the entire world. She is married to my dear cousin. Her two sweet girls, Isabell and Grace, call me Aunt Nay Nay. And my sweet nephew, baby O, will be here in July. I love them all so very much and photograph them any chance I can get. I just recently spent three weeks in Indiana and soaked up every minute I could with them. I actually didn’t even get to take their pictures until two days before I left. But I am so glad that I finally made them venture into this field with me, because I love the images we got.

Since I am moving to Japan in August this may be the last time I get to photograph them for a while. Sad. So I am going to take a minute to give each one of them a shout out.

To Isabell Jean~

You were my first baby! I remember the day you were born as vividly as I do my own children. I cherish that time in my heart more than you will ever know. I am so proud of the little lady you are becoming. You are strong-willed and know exactly what you want.  I love that about you. And one day your mommy will too. 🙂 Keep singing and dancing like no one is watching.  Your sweet spirit is contagious and you make everyone around you feel so loved. You are a beautiful daughter of the KING. Always know that our Lord has a plan and a purpose for your life. He loves you so very much and so do I.

To Grace Renee ~

I will start with saying that you are not a snob! You are a precious little girl who takes her time when letting people get close. That is ok. Just don’t be afraid to let your guard down a little bit when you get older. Your mom is like that too, but one day she can explain to you the great reward of taking risks. You are so very smart! And you will make good decisions when you are older. I love you so much more than you will every know and I pray for you daily. I pray that you will find favor in the Lord and break all stereo types that come with being the middle child. You don’t have to fit into any mold. God created you uniquely in HIS own image. There is only one Grace Renee. And you are so very special.

To baby O ~

Oh my goodness I can’t wait to kiss your cheeks. I love you so much already. I am so very excited for your mommy and daddy to have a little boy. You will rock their world in such a good way. My heart physically aches to know that I am going to be so far away from you while you are little. But know that I am thinking and praying for you always. Don’t be afraid when some crazy loud lady comes up to you and holds you close. That’s just your Aunt Nay Nay and soon enough you will learn that you just have to love me no matter how crazy I am. You will be warrior for the Lord. You are designed to carry His love and share it with the world. He has amazing plans for your life. Always remember that sweet boy.

To Timmy ~

Thank you for sharing your family with me! I am so proud of the husband and the daddy that you have become. Watching you with your kids is such a beautiful site. I love you so very much. I am so blessed to have you as my other brother and friend. Please take care of my bff while I am in Japan. And tell those babes that their Aunt Nay Nay loves them so much!

To Dawn ~

I am not sure if I can even get through this blog post without crying. But I want you to know how much I treasure our friendship. I am so blessed to have someone in my life who knows me inside and out. I still remember that summer at camp when I so badly wanted to have real relationships like you did with others. Relationships that were loving and accepting no matter what.  You give that to people. And I am thankful for that.

I am thankful that you invited me to church. My life would not be the same had you not done that.

Thank you for being my friend even though the cost is great. It’s difficult to stay invested in someone that you hardly ever see. But you’ve stuck it out and for that I will be forever grateful.

I love you and am so very thankful for your friendship.

Maybe one day we will get to live our dream of living in the same city and growing old on the front porch swing. One day!

Sisters!! HAHAHA.

Grace was totally over taking pictures. So Izzy decided to have her own little moment with the camera. She totally reminds me of her Aunt Nay Nay!

Project 52:21 | Milestones

Project 52:21 | Milestones

Observant. Inquisitive. Motivated. Determined.

That is my daughter.

Standing, accomplished.

What’s next?

Walking? Oh, ok.

Soon. Very soon.

Someone please tell my nine month old daughter to SLOW DOWN. She is suppose to be my baby. But apparently she didn’t get that memo. She wants to go go go and do all things that she sees her 23 month old brother doing. I am so very proud of all that she is learning and accomplishing, but the selfish side of me what’s her to just be little forever.  Oh how fast this time goes.

Crossfit Benedictus Memorial Day Murph 2012

I am excited to share with you some photos I took this weekend. Crossfit Benedictus, a local Crossfit gym, hosted a Memorial Day Murph which is a workout that honors a fallen soldier. I had the privilege of watching these highly motivated athletes push themselves to max to complete this intense challenge.  The workout consists of a one mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats, all followed by another one mile run for time.

Congrats to everyone who participated in this event. You guys and gals are amazing!

Be sure to checkout Crossfit Benedictus’ Facebook page (http://www NULL.facebook NULL.com/CrossFitBenedictus) and website (http://crossfitbenedictus NULL.com/) to learn all about the services they offer. My husband and I are both members and love it.

So check it out and come workout with us!

Creative Photo Shoot with Off Camera Light

I am a natural light photographer. I shoot on location and my number one criteria when picking a spot to photograph is always light! I am always looking to see what the light is doing and how it will fall on my subject.

I started out a natural light photographer for two reasons.

Reason # 1: That is the look I just LOVE.

Reason # 2: I was clueless how to shoot with artificial light.

So there you have it. A confession. Before a few weeks ago I was completely clueless about how to work with lighting that is not the sun. AND terrified to even try. Using off camera light just seemed so technical and something I would never EVER be able to master.

Well thanks to Zach & Jody (http://www NULL.zachandjody NULL.com/blog/) and their IN-CAMERA Light Workshop (http://workshops NULL.zachandjody NULL.com/) I now feel confident enough to dabble in off camera lighting. After attending their AMAZING workshop I decided I needed to try shooting with off camera light without them holding my hand. So I rented some gear from Texas Photo Rental (http://www NULL.texasphotorental NULL.com/) for the weekend, (If you ever need to rent some gear you must look them up. Amazing resource for sure.) got two awesome high school seniors to model for me, and headed out to see if I could shoot using light other than the sun.

The images below are the result. I’d love to hear what you think. This look is totally different than what you are use to seeing on the blog. But I am ok with that. I really believe that photographers need to grow and evolve. I am not saying that all my images will now start looking like the ones below. I am just proud to say that now I have options!

A HUGE shout out to Kori and Taylor for modeling for me. You both were fabulous to work with. And seriously beautiful.

And now to the images. Please leave me a comment because I’d love to know what you think!

The images below were shot with out additional camera lighting. Simply natural light. I have included these because I wanted you to be able to see the difference between natural light and off camera light. All the images in this post were taken around 9 am outside.

Julia - It’s amazing what a difference lighting makes (I know, duh!). I can see the appeal of the natural light…it’s just brighter overall. But I think your off camera light shots look great too and definitely add a new dimension to your style. It helps when you have great models to work with too!

Laurel - Renee this is huge! I can tell this is very different from your usual stuff. No doubt it’s a step outside your comfort zone. But it was worth steping outside the box – these are truly great images. It really opens up the possibilities for your business and just your love for photography.

gaye flores ordinario - Very nice…I like the dramatic effect of your lighting, you did an awesome job as always! Just like you, I love shooting with natural light but living in Alaska gives me no options at all during the winter. I enjoy looking at your photos!!

Barefoot Sandals for Babies

I love shoes on babies. I think they are just so darn cute. But often times I have a hard time getting them to stay on my eight month old. So what do I put on her feet?  It’s way too hot to have her just wear socks and being completely barefoot makes her outfit look incomplete. Well, my dear friend Jessica MADE us a solution: Barefoot Sandals!

After posting a few photos of sis on Facebook several people have asked me about her sandals. So I thought I would do a post on them.

WANT SOME BAREFOOT SANDALS FOR YOUR LITTLE ONE…?

If you would like some made for your babe leave a comment below and I will give you Jessica’s contact info. She charges $15 for a pair which I believe is a steal! She can make them in several sizes: small (6-12 months), medium (12-24 months), and large (24months +). And she can make them in a variety of colors.

I love them! We seriously wear them all the time. Are they not the cutest?

Thanks to the author of Tutus & Tea Parties (http://tutusandteaparties NULL.blogspot NULL.com/2012/04/tutorial-tshirt-to-barefoot-sandals NULL.html?m=1)for sharing these with the world.

And again leave a comment and I will get you in touch with Jessica so your little one can have these for the summer!

Project 52:20 | Cheese

Project 52:20 | Cheese

They watch everything we do.

And then the copy it.

Can you guess what I often do?

This moment happened this morning organically. I just happened to have my camera out taking photos of sis crawling and was able to capture it. He got done in front of Sawyer and said “say cheese.” Ah melt my heart.

I am so glad I am doing Project 52 this year. It is really keeping me accountable for documenting life as it happens. Are you doing a Project 52? You can still start one.
