Update on Baby Booe’s Arrival

Today was our routine 39 week appointment. Everything looks fine, but I have not progressed since last week. So our doctor asked Andy and I how we felt about being induced. I believe he would have induced us this week if we wanted to, but we asked him if we could wait. Since the beginning I have said that I would like to avoid being induced if possible. I really just want to go into labor naturally. With that said, I have also tried to keep an open-mind as far as a birth plan because I know things can change suddenly without notice.  So now here I am having to make this decision. And another factor is that our doctor is going out of town on the 30th and will not be back for 10 days, which is two weeks after my due date. This information was just given to us today and was a bit of a surprise. So if I don’t go into labor on my own by the 29th I will have to be delivered by the on call dr. This doesn’t really bother me, but seemed to make Andy a little uncomfortable.

So after discussing all of this with the doctor this is the plan we came up with. I will continue to wait for this baby to come on it’s own this week. We will go to my 40 week appointment on Monday to see how things are coming along. And then if I don’t have the baby Monday or Tuesday the doctor will induce me on Wednesday the 28th. He actually already scheduled it to make sure there was space available.

And now here I am struggling with this idea. My plan was to not even think about an induction until I was 41 weeks along. Well my doctor will not be here when I am 41 weeks. He also told me today that when women are over due he normally induces at 41 weeks anyway. So basically I would only be inducing 5 days earlier than what he would want to do typically. But I just keep thinking that the baby could come in that time frame own his/her own.

I just don’t want to jump the gun and take matters into our own hands. At the same time the doctor claims I am carrying a big baby and perhaps it would be better to go sooner rather than later. AHH! I don’t know what to do. At this point all I can do is pray and lay this down at God’s feet.  I am seeking His guidance on this and waiting for an answer. I am hoping that answer will be going into labor before next Monday so I don’t have to make the decision at my 40 week appointment. I could use your prayers and thoughts during this time. Ultimately our desire is to do what is best for the baby. It’s just difficult to know what that is.

Tori (http://FITori) - I have never been in your situation but as a Christian who has done a little research on pg, labor & delivery I think you should view these circumstances as God steering you in a direction. You may not know the reason WHY but you know that he is steering you this way. God led you in finding this doctor. God led him in choosing this vacation date. God led you to getting pg when you did. God led the baby to be the size he/she is and you are right that there are many dangers to the baby getting too big. I hope you can find some peace that this is God’s plan and in the end you will want to do it all over again, no matter what the circumstances. You are not choosing to induce for any reasons other than the course that has been laid out in front of you. You are not choosing to do this unnaturally, but you are choosing what is safest for you and your baby and you are choosing the comfort of having your doctor there with you. I don’t think you really had a choice to make…..it seems as though the choices were laid out for you and they are what they are and God chose this to be as it is now….

Not sure if that helps….thinking of you, praying for you

I hope you have some peace because I know you are just like me in wanting not to be induced and wanting as natural of an experience as you can have. I will be cheering you on (from here!) in whatever you decide but I promise you, I would have made the same decision and been just as ticked off at the circumstances as you are!

I’m here if you need me!

Jessica Marsh - If your Dr. says you are carrying a big baby then induction may be best and I’m speaking from experience. Both of my girls were big babies and towards the end of the pregnancy I couldn’t stand, sit, or sleep. She was pressing on some nerves in my back and everything. When I was induced with Megan (the first) I was scared but trusted the Dr. to know what he was talking about.
It’s a good thing I was induced because she was so big that I spent 2 hours pushing as hard as I could and then she got stuck. They had to use the vacuum on her to get her out which scared us even more. My dr. had said it the vacuum didn’t work then it was off to emergency c-section which we really didn’t want. C-setion was out for us unless it was a major emergency so the induction was a better option.
When I got pregnant with Brynn we automatically knew we would be induced again because the send is usually larger.
I hope this helps. I know everyone says induction is so bad but I think there are times (such as a big baby) when it is needed for the safety of both.

shawna (http://www NULL.styleberryblog NULL.com) - Oh, Renee. I must share something with you. I was induced to accommodate my OBs schedule and it was the worst decision of my pregnancy. I had many adverse outcomes because of this decision & would not wish induction on anyone. I will spare you the details, but I really hope your body can do this for you. It is what we are made to do!

Holly Verdeyen - Renee, I had a child both ways. Olivia came on her own first and then with Joe I was induced due to Andy’s schedule. Both experiences were amazing because you are getting to meet your sweet baby. If you doctor knows what he/she is doing you will be fine. I did not have any issues and had a healthy baby boy that would have been mighty large had I waited another week 🙂 I have had several friends that were also induced as it is becoming more and more common, and they also were issue free. I hope that God will give you a spirit of calm and peace over whatever happens, either way you will end up with a sweet sweet blessing!

Lauren Z - Acupuncture.

Chiropractic clinics use this as an alternative to getting induced. Try calling around this week. I had it done twice-absolutely pain free. Totally un-invasive, just needed my hands and swollen feet 🙂 Went into labor the night of the 2nd set. :)The chiro said he’s never had to do it more than 3 times! Induction can be so hard on your body and can make labor…well, even more ‘laborious’. Although, lots of women come through just fine being induced. Keep praying for His guidance. Let His Spirit supernaturally transform your fears into praise. He loves you and HE knows what’s best! You’re ALMOST there! Praying with and for you.

Susie Booe - Renee, listen to your heart and your body (not your head) I will be praying specifically that your little one will come before the 28th. Also, if you feel OK about the other doctor (on call) then don’t worry about waiting. I think Andy will be OK with that if you are. I love you!!
