On The Other Side of the Lens | Relating to Clients

Being a professional photographer means you become pretty comfortable behind a camera. But just because you take pictures for a living doesn’t mean you feel the same way in front of it. I have to admit that on the day of our family photo shoot with Shari of Shari Henson Photography (http://www NULL.sharihensonphoto NULL.com/index2 NULL.php#/home/) I was pretty nervous. I wanted everything to go perfectly and  I was feeling all the anxiety that many moms must feel on the day of their portrait session. So many thoughts and concerns were running through my mind. Do our outfits match? Will I look fat in every shot? Will hubby be cooperative and in a good mood? Will baby take a good nap before the shoot (which he did not)?  Will we get one shot that is good of everybody?…So many variables to think about before actually arriving to the shoot location. And before my own family photo shoot a few weeks ago these thoughts were tormenting me.

Do you worry about the same things before you get portraits taken? If so please know that I feel your pain. I truly feel like I can now really relate to my clients even more. I understand the anxiety they may go through before the session even begins.

When they pour out of their vehicle at our first location I know that mom and dad both have gone through a lot to get everyone there and looking their best. I know it has taken some work. And that it may have even been a little stressful. I want to relieve that stress as soon as my clients show up and put their minds at ease. It is my job to get awesome photos of  each family. Once families have gotten everyone to the shoot in one piece it’s time for mom and dad to relax and let me do the work. Let me do the worrying. I want the entire experience to be enjoyable and stress free. And now after being in my clients shoes I feel like I am better prepared to do just that!

Our personal photo shoot experience with Shari was perfect. She did an amazing job of making us feel comfortable and was really patient with Eli. I really enjoyed getting our photos taken and I am so so pleased with the results. It’s crazy to think that the next time we get pictures taken there will be another baby in the mix. I am thankful to have these images of our family as it is now and truly cherish these images. A big thanks to Shari! You are awesome.

What things do you worry about before a photo shoot? I’d love to hear them and how I as your photographer could take away that anxiety.
